Speaker - Linda G. Eldredge, EdD
Linda Eldredge, EdD is an author and retired psychologist who specializes in communication and personal empowerment. Her debut book, "Tales from the Diving Board," teaches kids how to breathe, focus, and try new skills even when they feel nervous.
Linda has loved the water since she was little, swimming and, much later, doing tricks off the diving board at Barton Springs Pool in Austin, Texas. She taught hundreds of people how to breathe, focus, and try new skills even when they feel nervous. She loves wordplay and won a medal in a pun contest.

New Member Applications
Jen and Mark Heinzke are ready to make the leap into Rotary and have applied for membership at Eugene Southtowne Rotary Club.
The married couple moved from Austin, Texas, to Eugene last summer, drawn by the cooler climate, natural beauty, and outdoor lifestyle. They also appreciate being part of a community that proactively addresses climate and water challenges.
They quickly fell in love with Eugene’s unique, vibrant energy, which reminds them of the “funky university town” Austin was 25 years ago. With their son starting at the U of O this fall, they will officially be empty nesters and are excited to plant deep roots in their new community.

About Mark:
After a 30-year career as a Texas state worker, Mark is now looking for his next opportunity in Oregon. He most recently worked for the Texas Department of State Health Services as a Database Administrator and Contract Manager.
“While I have kept busy with home improvement projects, utilizing my skills in electrical, plumbing, framing, and drywall, I find myself with too much time on my hands and a strong desire to be around people.”
A proud father of two grown children, Mark enjoys collecting model trains and coins, camping, biking, and hiking. Though new to organized volunteering, he is always ready to roll up his sleeves and help.
“I am looking forward to learning how I can use my hands-on skills to make a difference locally, while building lifelong friendships along the way.”

A New Springs Member: Bev Lahr
Beverly Lahr (goes by Bev) from The Springs satellite club at Greer Gardens. Mary O’Leary is please to present Bev for membership.
She and her husband, Dean Lahr, retired from owning a lumber import/export company. Nicaragua was their principal export and manufacturing partner. One thing they produced and sold throughout the world was broomsticks!
Bev is interested in helping with our local projects and social functions.

Polio Plus Update
Did you know the Rotary Plus Society started right here in District 5110? In 2012, club president Harriet Schlor proposed a simple idea: create a society members could join with a $100 annual donation. Today, the Rotary Plus Society has spread worldwide.
Rotary members continue to raise $50 million annually for polio eradication, with major support also coming from governments and the Gates Foundation.
But the job is not finished. Polio remains endemic in Afghanistan and Pakistan, with 18 confirmed cases reported as of July 21. Experts warn that if eradication efforts are abandoned, the disease could return on a massive scale. Continued support and renewed urgency are essential to finally end polio for good.
