Dear ATMIA Member,
The ever-present risk of crime against ATMs has been shown in the past month with two highly publicized and sophisticated incidents. In Brisbane, a French-Brazillian tourist used a deep insert skimming device to steal nearly $80,000.00 from ATM users. In Perth, two further tourists were charged for operating skimming devices on several ATMs- for more details click here.
The importance of co-operation within the industry to meet ever-evolving threats against ATMs cannot be understated. Through facilitating the exchange of information and maintaining best practice, we can all work together to ensure ATMs continue to be secure, reliable and convenient.
ATMIAs Strategic Direction Committee forum is the perfect platform for us to address any industry issues, plans are underway to hold our first conference call in April all details will be forward to our members in the coming weeks.
One conference not to be missed in 2020 is the Next Gen ATMs and Payments event, to be held in Sydney on 29th and 30th July. This event will give delegates the opportunity to network and directly interact with key industry stakeholders. We encourage industry experts to consider presenting, for further details please contact Sandra.smith@atmia.com to secure your speaking slot at this event. Mike Lee on stage at an ATMIA conference in Rome talking about next-generation ATMs.
|
| ATMIA CEO Q&A: 'Cash and digital payments need to coexist'
Contributing Editor: Amy Castor, ATMmarketplace.com
Mike Lee is the quintessential diplomat. The CEO of the ATM Industry Association greets you with a smile and a warm handshake. He is the sort of person who appears to always have time for everyone.
But in meeting him, what you quickly learn is that despite his pleasant demeanor, Lee is a man with strong convictions, fiercely devoted to defending the use of cash.
Last week at ATMIA Europe in Rome, ATM Marketplace caught up with him over cappuccino for a long chat about the war on cash and the future of ATMs. We even asked him about bitcoin.
