Dear ATMIA Member,
As the year draws to we can reflect on the many achievements the industry has shared in. The enormous success of the Next Generation Banknote Programme has continued, with the smooth rollout of the $20 banknote showing that through effective communication across the industry, major changes such as the introduction of new currency is possible.
Last month ATMIA held a conference in Kuala Lumpur where over 200 industry delegates heard from regional and international experts sharing their expert knowledge in the industry. The key message from the event was that through working together and promoting new technology, particularly through ATMIA's NextGen ATM Project, we can look forward with confidence towards the future.

The final Strategic Direction Teleconference was held last week where we heard from the RBA about the Next Generation Banknote Programme, an update from the NSW Police Force and the Treasury Department shared details related to the implementation of the Black Economy taskforce. We strongly recommend for our members to join this forum and as a means to promote open dialogue across the industry. To view the minutes, please click here.
Another achievement this region can be proud of is the strong membership growth, this year we've welcomed 13 new members to the ATM community, and in 2020 this momentum will continue as ATMIA  strengthens and expands our presence in the Asia Pacific region.

Moving forward, the next major event for this region is the Next Generation ATMs & Payments conference. Speaking submissions are now open, this is a great opportunity to share your expertise, case studies, and experiences with industry stakeholders. This two-day event will be held in Sydney on 29th & 30th July. These sessions may take the form of a sole presenter, a joint presentation or panel discussion. Please contact Sandra.smith@atmia.com for more details.
Finally, I would like to thank you all for your support in 2019. The industry has remained strong and together we look forward to doing it all again in 2020. I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and I look forward to working with you in the New Year.

Thanks,
Sandra Smith

ATMIA CEO Q&A: 'Cash and digital payments need to coexist'

Contributing Editor: Amy Castor, ATMmarketplace.com
Mike Lee is the quintessential diplomat. The CEO of the ATM Industry Association greets you with a smile and a warm handshake. He is the sort of person who appears to always have time for everyone.
But in meeting him, what you quickly learn is that despite his pleasant demeanor, Lee is a man with strong convictions, fiercely devoted to defending the use of cash.
Last week at ATMIA Europe in Rome, ATM Marketplace caught up with him over cappuccino for a long chat about the war on cash and the future of ATMs. We even asked him about bitcoin.
