Santa Fe Prep Spring Musical

Don't miss the Middle School Musical Theater Class' production of Lion King Jr on Thursday, May 19 at 5:30 pm and Friday, May 20 at 7:00 pm in Prep's Driscoll Auditorium.
This production is going to be a spectacular event with wonderful costumes and a talented Middle School cast! Choreography is by our own Laura Garrett '16.

We hope to see you and your friends in the audience!

THANK YOU

We thank the Lannan Foundation and author
Karl Ove Knausgaard
who visited with our juniors last month!

After studying excerpts from the Norwegian writer's six volume autobiographical novel My Struggle, Prep juniors attended a Lannan reading featuring Knausgaard in conversation with author Zadie Smith. The following day, courtesy of the Lannan Foundation, Knausgaard met with the juniors to discuss a variety of topics based on their reading and his performance the previous evening. Both the author and representatives from the Lannan foundation were impressed with the students' questions and the ways they deeply interacted with literature.
Rummage Reigns!
Another phenomenal rummage sale took place this year under the leadership of Jill Gerber! An enormous thank you goes out to Jill, her hard-working and indefatigable team of volunteers, our tireless maintenance crew, and our donors for raising more than $25,000 for tuition assistance and Breakthrough Santa Fe

The mass of rummage for sale was astounding, as was the number of people who came to shop from every nook of Santa Fe. Many of you gave hours of time and treasures to sell; we are grateful for your generosity. It truly took a village to ensure such a success (and trucks and trailers—thank you Manny and Anthony!), and we at Prep, and our students who benefit from your time and kindness, thank you deeply!

SPRING SPORTS WRAP
Girls Lacrosse won their final regular season match by beating Rio Rancho. They then headed into the State Tournament with an opening round match in the semifinals against Bosque. After beating Bosque, the girls moved on to the Championship game against Rio Rancho, where they emerged  with a 12-7 victory and hoisted the State Championship Trophy. Congratulations, girls—we are proud of your victory!

Boys Lacrosse wrapped up their regular season with a 6-1 victory over Sandia Prep
the only team that beat them this year. They next headed into the State Tournament where they faced Los Alamos in the first round, beat them, and moved on to the Championship match against Sandia Prep. In an epic defensive battle, the Blue Griffins outlasted Sandia Prep by a score of 3-2 and won their third state title in as many years! Read the SFNM article on this fantastic win...

Prep Tennis boys finished second in Districts and moved on to the State Tournament as the number 5 seed. In a hard-fought match against the fourth-seeded team from NMMI, they ultimately lost 6-3. The team also sent a handful of singles and doubles to the tournament, and although none of our players advanced to the next round, they played stout-heartedly as a fitting end to a strong tennis season. A big Griffin shout out to Samantha Whitegeese '16 and Anna Bennett '16 who played at state!
Track and Field competed in the District Meet in Pecos, surviving combinations of snow, rain, sun and wind. The Girl's Team won for the 26th year in a row and sent a strong team to the State Championship at UNM. The Boys Team fought valiantly at districts and ended up second to a very strong Pecos team. Both teams placed 9th at state.

A few of the highlights from state include a championship run by the boys' 4x100. As well, outstanding individual performances by: Mason Hurlocker '16  who finished 2nd in the 100 meter dash, 3rd in the 200 meter and 4th in the long jump; Jeremy Portillo '16 who made the podium by finishing 6th in the discus;
Annika Birk '17 who finished 3rd in the 100 meter dash and 4th in the 200 meter run, Gressia Burrola '16 who took 5th in the discus; Elizabeth Whiting '15 who finished 5th in the 800 meter run; and a fantastic first-year performance by Quincy Conway '17 who finished 6th in th pole vault. Finally, a special shout out to the young Hayden Colfax '20 who finished 6th in the 100 meter hurdles and who helped the 4x400 relay team to a third-place finish.

Prep Baseball finished their season with an exciting 7-5 victory over Sandia Prep's JV team, a team the Griffins had never defeated, featuring a beautiful 2-run homer over the right field fence by Gordon Goodwin '16.

Congratulations to all Blue Griffins on a great spring season!
