I am pleased to announce that Josephine Dlugopolski-Gach, MD, FAAP, has been appointed regional medical director of primary care, effective April 1, 2022.

Dr. Dlugopolski-Gach has been with Loyola Medicine since 2005 and currently serves as interim associate director of primary care and senior ambulatory medical director of the Southwest Region. She was incident command center physician lead, a COVID-19 hotline physician contributor and was part of the clinical leadership transfer center call team during the COVID-19 crisis from March 2020 to June 2020.

Dr. Dlugopolski-Gach specializes in internal medicine and pediatrics and has conducted research on language and cultural barriers in healthcare. She is on the Board of Directors for the Polish-American Medical Society and is a Medical Polish Elective Faculty Liaison. She has been a student mentor, resident advisor and undergraduate student pre-med advisor. Additionally, Dr. Dlugopolski-Gach is the past recipient of the Loyola University Community Service Award and the Mentorship Award from the Polish-American Student Association.

Dr. Dlugopolski-Gach's leadership has been invaluable throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. Her expertise will benefit patients and physicians alike in her new role as director of primary care.

She received her bachelor's degree in psychology from Loyola University Chicago and her medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. She completed her residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. 
I would like to sincerely than Dr. Aaron Michelfelder who served as interim regional director of primary care and led the search committee for this position as well as Dr. Josh Evans who assisted in leading the division and will continue in a leadership role.
