November at the YMCA!

This month we are reflecting on the almost 6 months we were closed. Six months. That's half a year with zero members improving their health in our facility. That's 180 days with half-filled pools. Twenty-four weeks with no senior coffee hours. That's a long time to be apart, but somehow we managed to keep us all together.
We have not stopped our Mission, and the YMCA was quick to react to fill the needs of the community during the pandemic. In the very first week of closure, the YMCA:
  • Provided meals to those with no food
  • Delivered food boxes to those who were home bound
  • Organized staff led Virtual Group exercise classes for the community
Donations from the Mission: Forward Campaign will allow for the return of what we recognize the Y to be: more group exercise classes, a safe place for children, preventable disease programs, weight loss challenges, drowning prevention, youth sports, and quality childcare. We can serve all, once again.
The YMCA:
  • Has taught 474 children how to swim last year alone
  • Helped our Diabetes Prevention Program participants lose 225 pounds in 2018
  • Has provided free Senior Group Exercise classes
  • Continued to offer Summer Camp, Childcare, and 26 Youth Sports Camps during our closure
  • Served 62,025 meals since March 2020 through the Free Youth Food Program
The Y did not waiver when the community needed it the most, and we invite you to help preserve our legacy. In these times of uncertainty, the YMCA provides normalcy and steadiness. This is a great time to collaborate with us and support the YMCA. Your financial support will help the YMCA thrive in this new environment and beyond. If you can give, please give generously to the health and wellbeing of our community.

Stories of Impact

Watch the video above to see just one example of how the Y can touch lives. The Ruhland family were facing the unthinkable in 2017 when they turned to the Y for help. We have been so happy to watch the Ruhlands grow through our Childcare and School Age programming for the past 3 years. Please consider giving to the Mission: Forward campaign to assure that the Y continues to impact lives like this for years to come.

"I love the Y because it has been life changing for my physical and mental health. Without the Y, I never would have learned the amazing world of swimming laps. The staff is so helpful and kind. Members are now life-long friends. It is a safe and educational place for my son in the summer. Lastly, I am so glad that my membership also contributes to giving back to the community!"

"I love working for the Y, because in my 3.5 years here I have built many friendships within our Y community. It's an inspiration to work in the mornings and see our senior members come in to enjoy the classes being offered to keep them active and healthy. I'm happy to be a part of it."
