Week of the Young Child
Children & Youth Services
April was a busy and exciting month for The Arc Montgomery County’s Children & Youth Programs!  The Week of the Young Child was celebrated at the Karasik Family, Infant & Child Care Center (KFICCC) with special interactive lessons focused on sensory experiences, learning skills, and social development.  The week started off with Music Monday, followed by enjoying a treat with a friend on Tasty Tuesday, and finishing out the week with Work Together Wednesday, Artsy Thursday, and wrapping up with Family Friday!  The daily activities were new opportunities for the children to develop social, literacy, and fine motor skills, explore math and science, problem-solve, be creative, and use their imaginations through age-appropriate projects.

Come one, come all to KFICCC for an open house!  Engage with our experienced teachers, and discover how learning happens through projects, exploration, and play.  Tour the classrooms, the newly installed playground for those sunny days, and the gym for those cold and rainy days.  Our fully inclusive childcare program includes a sensory room for therapeutic support and a full-time nurse.  Your time includes fun projects for the whole family and some goodies to take home too!  Play, grow, learn, and explore why children thrive at KFICCC!
After All Field Day

After All Field Day

On a sunny day, young people from After All, Community Companions, and St. Johns College High School gathered for the first time for a field day.  While having fun and working up a sweat playing games together, the students from After All and Community Companions worked on developing social and language skills.  The students from St. John's had an opportunity to experience inclusive education and explore careers related to the needs of youth with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD).  There was lots of laughter throughout the day as the teens built connections, and plans are underway for another event this fall.

National Rebuilding Together Day

Rebuilding Together

In April, two of our residences underwent repairs and updates. Good Shepherd Lutheran, GE Frisco, Kynoch & Berkadia, in partnership with Rebuilding Together Montgomery County, worked on the homes.  The organization coordinates no-cost county home repairs and maintenance through corporate volunteers.  The volunteers worked on specific needs at each location, such as yard work, power washing, cleaning out gutters, and home accessibility upkeep.

Take Your Child to Work Day!

On Thursday, April 27 employees working on location at The Arc’s headquarters brought their kids to the office to witness the wonderful world of Human Services!   In shadowing their parents, these young future leaders had a first-hand opportunity to learn what it means to support people with disabilities, embody inclusion, and work for a nonprofit.  Take Your Child to Work Day was created in 1992 by Gloria Steinem in hopes of inspiring youngsters to pursue future job opportunities and showcase the significance of education.
