Psalm 139:4-5
Before a word is on my tongue
    you, Lord, know it completely.
You hem me in behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me.

New International Version (NIV)
We have stood in awe of the power of nature this week watching a storm move through our state.  Wind and water possess great power to give life or to take it.  Even more powerful than the elements are our words.  With words we can build up or tear down.  Sometimes we speak before we think.  This can lead to great pain for others and ourselves.  But we never speak before God thinks and knows what we will say.
From time to time we try to catch our animals of the canine and bovine varieties.  Our best bet is to get them in a corner.  If two of us work at it we have a better chance.  So God hems us in because he wants us to come to him.  When we stop and remain still God places his hand firmly on us.
In the early church they marveled at the hand of God upon them.  If God’s hand is with us, then nothing can stop us.  But if God’s hand stops us we cannot make progress.  David knew that God knew his thoughts, deeds and words.  Best of all God chooses to be involved in our lives and our churches, placing his hand upon us.
Pray with me:
Father, please do not remove your hand from our hearts, our lives, our homes and our churches.  Your hand is our hope.  If you move, we will be moved to action.  Whatever happens, please do not take your hand away from us.  In your hands we are safe and we are saved.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
I want to invite you to join me in memorizing 52 passages this year from the 2017 set of Fighter Verses.  You can find the Fighter Verses App at the App Store on your phones or via this link  http://fighterverses.com/the-verses/fighter-verses/As we study the Bible this year, let's look at each text and learn what it says about God.
Joyfully,
