BLTN Book Club: New Members Welcome
The BLTN Book Club, co-facilitated by BLTN fellows Genithia Hogges and Brian Hotchkiss, meets virtually on the first Monday of every month from 7:00-8:00 pm EST. According to Hogges, "We just had our second Book Club discussion last week about Lorena Escoto Germán's Textured Teaching: A Framework for Culturally Sustaining Practices. In October, we discussed Passing, a novella by Nella Larsen. On December 4th, we'll discuss A Raisin in the Sun. The readings were selected based on participants' ranked preferences and are a mix of literature and pedagogy. It's been great to have supportive thought partners and hear different perspectives from across the country, as we face the challenges of working to be anti-racist in our curriculum and instruction." Reach out to Genithia or Brian if you would like to join the BLTN Book Club.

On November 9, BLTN Associate Director Fallon Abel (MA '19) spoke to BLTN colleagues in a presentation titled "The Fulbright Distinguished Award in Teaching Research Program - Exploring Teen SEL in Finland." Abel introduced participants to the Fulbright program that allowed her to conduct research in Finnish classrooms. She shared how she is applying the learning from her inquiry to a school-wide Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum at The Sharon Academy in Vermont. Fallon would be happy to share the resources she developed or support any teachers who might be interested in applying for this Fulbright program. Send a note of interest to fabel@middlebury.edu.
