Hebrews 9:14, 26-28
14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

26 Otherwise Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But he has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

Do you believe in the forgiveness of sins?  On what basis?  I heard a famous person say he hoped God would tell him upon his death that he had done enough to get to heaven.
The writer of Hebrews reminds us of the firm foundation for our faith and forgiveness: Jesus paid it all, once and for all.
Jesus' perfect sacrifice suffices for all who will believe in him.  His crucifixion never needs to be repeated.  Jesus suffered one and for all so that we could be forgiven once and for all.
How then shall we live?  First, we receive his forgiveness.  Second, we serve him out of gratitude.  Nothing in our hands we bring; simply to his cross we cling.
Pray with me:
Abba, Father, we thank you for the sufficiency and efficacy of grace.  Help us to believe in Christ's finished work and receive your total forgiveness.  Liberate us from the penalty and power of sin until we are one day released from its presence altogether.  In Jesus' name we pray.  Amen.
