Galatians 4:4-7
But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.  Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.”   So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.
New International Version (NIV)
Driverless cars are coming soon?!  Uber will send one to your house.  No thanks.  Things are changing really fast in our world, aren’t they?   Paul wrote to the Galatians in the first century to remind them that our God is right  on time.  “In the fullness of time . .  God sent his Son.”  History is directional because it has an author and sustainer.  Our world is not a driverless car.   God sent Jesus right on time so that he might perfectly redeem the world.
Our God is a sending God.  After he sent his Son he sent the Holy Spirit as confirmation in the hearts of all who believe.  The Spirit enables us to know God not only as the Father of Jesus, but as our own Father.  So we call out to him “Abba.”  We dads are not perfect.  Even on our best days we make mistakes.  But the heavenly Father is perfect in all of his ways.
James later wrote, “Every good and perfect gift is from above coming down from the Father of heaven lights . . .”  Our good, good Father gives good, good gifts.  By the goodness of God we were born into this world.  In his goodness, God has made a way for us to be his children as well.  His very best gift is the gift of himself.  Will you open the gift?
Pray with me:
Father, as we hurry and scurry today, let us not forget you.  Thank you for every good gift you have given us.  "Thank you our  Father for giving us your Son, and sending your Spirit until the work on earth is done.”  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
