INFORMATION & UPDATES

Thanks to the good work of the Intervention and Treatment Workgroup and the Alcohol Coordinating Committee, The Haven at College Outpatient Center at Miami University will open on September 15 (yes, of 2017) in temporary space at the Interfaith Center, 16 South Campus Ave in Oxford.  The Haven will then move to 32 W Walnut Street (Walnut and Beech) in Oxford around November 1.

Miami SOUP

On Saturday, October 21, Miami will host a unique mini-granting dinner, Miami SOUP, which celebrates and supports innovative community change projects in the Southwest Ohio region.
Miami SOUP is now accepting change project proposals from teams of at least one community organization and one Miami University collaborator (student, student organization, faculty or staff member) committed to the project. CLICK HERE for more information and to submit a proposal! Proposals due by Sunday, September 24.
Have an idea for a project, but not sure which community organization would be right to team up with? Contact Christie Zwahlen, OCES Director, zwahleca@miamioh.edu.
Walkabout Volunteers Needed

Please consider volunteering for the 15th Annual Walkabout on Sunday, August 27th and Monday, August 28th.

We are still in need of many people to help for 1.5 hour shifts on these days.

Walkabout is an annual program (in its 15th year!) in which small groups of volunteers visit off-campus students in their rental houses and apartments at the beginning of fall semester. The volunteers welcome students back to town and provide useful information about living in Oxford. In addition to information, they also give Insomnia chocolate chip cookies to each house that answers the door.

If you have any questions, please let us know by emailing OffCampus@MiamiOH.edu.

Volunteers Needed for Convocation and It Is My Place

Two important events during Welcome Weekend depend on support from Student Affairs staff: Convocation (on the morning of Friday, August 25/rain date Sunday, August 27), and It Is My Place (on the afternoon of Sunday, August 27).  Nearly all of the Class of 2021 will attend these events; staff help to welcome and direct students, distribute materials, and serve as a point of information for new students.

Please sign up on our SAF Welcome Weekend Volunteer Form by Monday, August 21.  If you have questions or need more information, please contact Buffy Stoll Turton at stolle@miamioh.edu or 9-1880.

Welcome Weekend and First 50 Days Events - Get the App!

Orientation and Transition Programs is excited to promote over 350 events during Welcome Weekend and the First 50 Days - from August 24 - October 15.  See the full schedule on our Orientation and Transition guide, part of the Miami University Events app (same one we use for summer orientation), or on our website at MiamiOH.edu/first50.  The schedule will soon be divided into event tracks for first-year, second year, transfer, and graduate students.
If you have an event to promote that is not yet on the schedule, input the details on our Welcome Weekend and First 50 event proposal form.  If you need to make changes to an existing event, please contact Evelyn Covington at covinged@miamioh.edu.

Student Affairs Intranet

Student Affairs will soon have a staff member Intranet, for internal communication and resource-sharing in Student Affairs. We are looking now for early adopters to help us populate the site with missing resources (you'll see lots of gaps currently!) and expand the current offerings.
New ideas? Missing resources? Etc? Email Jen O'Brien (obrienjc@miamioh.edu) or Tim Kresse (kressetj@miamioh.edu) to submit ideas.

Tech Tip of the Week
From Jen O'Brien
TIP: Change the subject line for forwarded emails.
WHY: Say you want to forward an email… but the “Subject” just isn’t working for you. This especially comes in handy for those “scan-to-email” documents coming in from your department printer (but in plenty of others ways, too).
HOW?  Select the forward button on the email, like you would any other time. However, this time, select the little drowdown arrow next to the “To” area where you can add the recipients. The dropdown box will provide an option to “Edit Subject.” Select, then change the subject in the pop out box.
Note - same deal works for “reply” emails.
