From the Camp Director

Happy New Year!

While it hardly seems possible that another year is in the rearview mirror, it is indeed a fact.

The past year has held many victories here at Hanging Rock as well as many challenges. If your life is anything like mine, it can seem like you’re on an intense roller coaster ride. Often, we might feel like we didn’t even sign up for the trip but we’re on it anyway.

Well one thing is for sure, and that is, that this year will have its share of ups and downs as well.

I believe with all my heart that the same God who walked with us every step of the way during 2018 is the same God that will walk with us in the days and months that are ahead.

I want to encourage you this year to be proactive as you encounter people in your life in need of hearing the Gospel message. This is going to be our theme for 2019, GO!  We meet people on a daily basis in all walks of life who need Jesus, so why not listen to the gentle voice of the Holy Spirit as he leads us to the right person at the right moment?

Our lives find a great sense of satisfaction when we are helping others, and I believe the most significant help we can offer humanity is to declare, God loves them!

I think you will be amazed at how receptive people are. And if they aren’t, move on and ask the Holy Spirit to open the next door.

I know, God will help all of us as we endeavor to live for him to share our Faith in 2019.

HS Camp Winter Retreat

January 11-13, 2019
In the final chapters of the book of Acts we find Paul journeying to Rome as a prisoner in chains.  But we discover that he has been made free by Jesus Christ, and he surprisingly wants to go to Rome to courageously take that Gospel message to the darkest place in his world, UNHINDERED by anything that could possibly prevent him from going.  Ever feel like you're bound up in chains of fear, regret, guilt or shame?  Ever feel like you're far away from God?  Ever feel intimidated or inadequate for what God wants for you?  Join us at Winter Retreat to discover how you can find freedom to really live and an awareness of God in your life and a passion to fuel your desire to share your story of Jesus with the world around you.  Hear messages by Danny Wright in three main sessions, spend time in solitude with God to discover his presence, and enjoy plenty of winter fun both indoors and out, all weekend long.  Set aside anything that might hinder you from joining us, and register to attend High School Winter Retreat with us!

Pool Update

We had an unexpected issue with our main swimming pool at the end of the camp season that has resulted in us having to get a new pool liner. Let me tell you we have tried to do several things that would keep us from having to do this. But, all efforts have been in vain. We have had some experts look at our pool and all have recommended we replace the liner. We have also had a state report tell us that now we need to go from a 4-foot high fence to a 6-foot high fence.

The total cost to make the pool functional for 2019 is $42,000 ($34,500 to replace the pool liner and $7,500 to replace the concrete and fence).  We have already raised over $11,000 for the project, $6,000 from #GivingTuesday and $5,000 from VBS in 2018.  So, new amount needed to make the pool functional for 2019 is $31,000.

This all needs to be finished before the 2019 camp season. We really need to fulfill this goal by April 1st, so we can have the resources to start the project in time to finish before camp.
If you want to help with this project you can donate online or by sending a check to Hanging Rock and put in the memo- pool liner.
