New to St. Michael's This Year: Minds in Motion
St. Michael's is pleased to be partnering with the Richmond Ballet to bring their esteemed year-long program, "Minds in Motion" to our Lower School campus this year.
Minds In Motion teaches fourth-grade students discipline, dedication and self-awareness. Not to be mistaken for a ballet class, this movement-based curriculum teaches students the benefits of applying themselves to a task involving both mental and physical challenges. This year's theme is local ecology and native and invasive species.
In conjunction with physical education and reading programs, our fourth grade students will receive instruction from Richmond Ballet professional teaching artists and musicians for one class per week. The program includes both on-campus and off-campus enrichment field trips. It concludes with a memorable May performance, alongside students from across central Virginia, at Richmond's Center Stage.
Students from independent and public schools alike across the Richmond metro area have found Minds in Motion to be anywhere from "really cool" to "utterly transformative."

Help Wanted
The SMPA is looking for a pizza coordinator.  Pizza Fridays are popular with our students and a great fundraiser for the SMPA.  Dave Lundgren will work with the new coordinator through at least one cycle to ensure a smooth transition.  The job requires some organization and paper work management three times a year, as well as coordinating with the volunteers. If you have questions or interest, please contact Dave Lundgren or Laura Stewart .  A conversation is not a commitment!
St. Michael's SMPA Tennis Social!
St. Michael's annual tennis social is just around the corner!  Mark your calendars for:
  • Wednesday, October 7 from 9 a.m.-noon
(rain date of Friday, October 9)
  • Location: Bon Air Community Center Courts

This year's fundraiser is going to be bigger than ever!  We have multiple tennis pros leading a fun rotating clinic of drills.  A round robin, fabulous food, ice cold beverages and the chance to win over $500 worth of raffle prizes will follow.  All tennis levels welcome!  Even if you have never picked up a racket, come and spectate while getting to know some fellow Dragon parents.

There's more! That evening, Cassie Omohundro has graciously offered up her shop, Sassy Bee from 6-8 p.m.  It's called a "Sip & Shop." The entire St. Michael's community can enjoy light refreshments while they stock up on gifts as well as a huge selection of tennis and golf shoes and apparel. 15% of all sales go to the school!!!

Click here for more info and the registration form. Then, please send a check for $30, made payable to the "SMPA", to your child's homeroom teacher by Monday, October 5th. Any questions, feel free to email Lauren Golliday
