Pre-Health Advising Announcements
|
Hello future health professionals,
"So, what are you doing this summer?”
Around this time each year, that familiar question starts to pop up from friends, family, and just about anyone making conversation with a college student. It’s a simple question, but for pre-health students, it can also be an opportunity to think intentionally about how to spend your time in ways that support both personal and professional growth.
In pre-health, the tried-and-true experiences still matter. Clinical exposure, research, and non-clinical community service are all ways to remain meaningfully engaged while developing key competencies. Summer can also be a great time to prepare for a standardized exam or take coursework that may not fit into the academic year (though it is generally best to complete pre-health prerequisites during the fall or spring semesters). If your summer is more academically focused, try to balance your time by incorporating at least one additional structured activity, whether that’s service, work, or a personal interest, for more balance and variety.
At the same time, not everything needs to be “pre-health.” Pursuing personal interests, whether that’s a hobby, creative outlet, travel, or a cause you care about, is also valuable. Health professional schools are looking for students who are not only prepared, but also balanced, reflective, and connected to the world around them.
So, while you still have a few months to finalize your plans, remember as always, pre-health advising is here to support you! If you’re not sure where to start, we encourage you to explore our Becoming a Successful Applicant resources or connect with an Advisor.
Best,
Your Pre-Health Advising Team
