| | Hello Friends,
Welcome to The Green Room, an exciting new project from Ozarks Public Broadcasting. I’m Jimmy Rea, arts reporter at KSMU and your behind-the-scenes guide to the vibrant arts scene here in the Ozarks.
Each Friday morning, I’ll drop into your inbox with fresh stories, local highlights, and a personal look at what’s happening across our creative community.
In the world of theater and performance arts, the green room is where artists gather – where we warm up, swap stories, and connect before stepping into the spotlight. It’s a place full of energy, creativity, and community.
That’s the spirit behind The Green Room: A Weekly Arts News Letter.
As a local musician and host of Arts News on KSMU, I get to witness the incredible talent and passion bubbling just beneath the surface of our community. With The Green Room, I’m opening the door and inviting you backstage – sharing personal stories, artist profiles, film screenings, and so much more.
Whether you’re an artist yourself, a longtime supporter of the arts, or simply art-curious, this is my invitation for you to step behind the scenes with me and experience all the artsy goodness happening right here in the Ozarks.
Come on in! There’s a seat waiting for you.

Before an artist walks on stage for a concert and before the audience walks through the gate of that concert, there is so much work that goes into a show. Staging, lights, and sound are a piece of that puzzle and a very often overlooked element of a great show. For nearly four decades Mark West and his business Downhome Productions have brought events to life with these production elements. ...read more

Mr. J.R. Top is on our Local Radar this week.
While technically no longer a local resident (he has called Austin, TX home for more than a few years now) he will always be my favorite Springfield musician - so much so that every episode of Local Radar closes with a J.R. Top song in our weekly segment, “Spin the Top!” His many albums with early 2000’s local legends Sweetwater Abilene rank among some of my finest musical memories, of our scene or any other.
J.R. eventually went on, here and elsewhere, to create a one-man electro-dance project called “Booyah! Dad,” and their long-existing, not-very-accessible album “Party, Work, Love, Party” has FINALLY been released on all major streaming platforms! Truly, a thing to celebrate. So, give that Top a spin and check out "Booyah! Dad" with “All My Bros Work at Lowe’s.” We’ll see ya next week!
