GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
GIRLS CC RICHARD SPRING INVITE RESULTS

This past weekend the Mason Comets Girls XC team traveled to Peoria, Illinois to face the best of the Midwest at the Richard Spring Invitation. The race was loaded with some of the best teams in the country and the Comets did their best to hang tough.

Efa Paschka had a great day and placed in the top ten overall in this huge field. Carlie Condit continues to have an amazing year and she was the second runner across the line for Mason.  Bella Teply got out strong (as usual)  and finished well for our third-place runner in the contest.

Our 4th and 5th runners on the day were Addi Stephens and Sharanya Nair respectively. We also got a great day out of freshman Talia Hawkins and Junior, Nadia Markich, who continues to improve.

Overall, it was a good day for the Comets and they took a nice step forward as a team.

Next Saturday is the Princeton Invitational.

FOOTBALL
MASON FB DEFEATS FAIRFIELD
HOMECOMING THIS FRIDAY VS. THE MIDDIES!

The Mason Football team went on the road last Friday night and earned a big GMC win at Fairfield by a 21-14 final. Both the Comets and the Indians came into the affair neck and neck in the league with 1-2 records. Each was looking to springboard their way to positivity for the second half of the season. Both teams showed their physical natures and played a tough game, and in the end, it was Mason coming away with a hard-fought road win.

The Comets got on the board with 39 seconds remaining in the first quarter on Caden Ashurst's 7-yard pass to Liam McManes, tying the score at 7-7.

Mason put together a nice drive to end the half. Mason senior running back Sky Talley was huge on the drive as he broke several runs of over six yards as he led the march down the field and deep into the red zone. Once there, Mason quarterback Caden Ashhurst found tight end Liam McManes over the middle for a 6-yard score. The game was tied at 7 at the half.

The Indians got a 14-7 lead after the break. The Comets turned around and went on a tough and physical drive that led them down the field and into scoring position. Temilade Adesanya punched one in for Mason from 1-yard away and the game was tied again.

A Fairfield field goal kick was then blocked by Preston Estoesta. The momentum was suddenly Mason’s late in the fourth quarter. The Comets took another physical drive down the field and with 2:39 remaining, Sky Talley sprinted into the endzone from six yards away. Mason led 21-14.

The Indians make a big return on the ensuing kickoff. The Comets, however, stood up to the challenge and Liam McManes slammed the door shut with a sack on Talon Fisher on fourth down. Mason went into victory formation for the big road victory.

Mason will host Middletown this Friday for Homecoming. The Middies (2-3, 2-2) defeated Lakota East last week 21-14.

Mason Boys Soccer tied, 3-3, Saturday, 9/16, against St. Ignatius HS.

The Comets faced the 2022 State Champion St Ignatius Wildcats and played a hard-fought match to a draw.  After going down 0-1, Joe Crowe's corner kick deflected off a Wildcat to tie the score at 1-1 and remained that way going into half-time.

After going down 1-2 early in the second half, the Comets responded 4 minutes later with a goal from Marcos Neto off and Brian Gorski's assist.  The Comets took their first lead with 30 minutes to go, when Alex Geren scored off a Neto pass.  The Wildcats came back to tie with 11 minutes to go.  In the final 10 minutes, both teams had chances and it was an exciting finish.

The Comets had 5 shots on goal. Michael Bilo made 4 saves.
