Genesis 46:1-4
So Israel set out with all that was his, and when he reached Beersheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.  And God spoke to Israel in a vision at night and said, “Jacob! Jacob!”
“Here I am,” he replied.
“I am God, the God of your father,” he said. “Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there.  I will go down to Egypt with you, and I will surely bring you back again. And Joseph’s own hand will close your eyes.”

New International Version (NIV)
Does your God travel?  Is he God for just a moment or for every moment of all of your life?  At some point in our lives we will have to decide that we can trust God for our whole lives or we will live in perpetual fear.

Again and again in the story of Jacob’s life, God showed up.  At Bethel in a dream, beside the Jabbok River as he reentered the land, and now at Beersheba as he left the land to go to Egypt.  What does God have to say?  God calls him by name and tells him not to fear leaving the land of his father and grandfather.  Listen to the promise:  “I will go with you” and “I will bring you back.”  Late in his life, Jacob urged his son Joseph to take him back to bury him with his forefathers when he died (Genesis 47:30-31).

Aging may leave us feeling a bit powerless.  What will become of the world that we have known?  Will anybody care that we are gone?  Take comfort in this:  the God who has guided you for your whole journey will not abandon you at the end.  God is with you today.  Live confidently!

Pray with me:
Father, let us rest in your presence today.  We have no doubt that you are with us and for us today.  Let us live life today and for our whole lives with you, consciously seeking your presence every moment of every day.  You have never once failed us.  All of your good promises are true.  Help us to trust you.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year our Every Day with Jesus readings will follow The Bible Project Read Scripture Plan.  Copies of this reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download
the app at readscripture.org.  Read through the Bible with us in 2019!
Joyfully,
