GIRLS CC CENTERVILLE LIGHTS RESULTS
MASON INVITE SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 6TH!
This past Saturday at the Centerville night meet, the Mason Girls CC team laced up their shoes for their first meet of the season and competed in the annual SNL meet (Saturday Night Lights). This meet is a true spectacle. 1000s of runners, 10+ races, and schools from far and wide compete in this literal circus. The girls raced in the early JV and Varsity B races, performing well with great efforts from Liz Polack and Brooklyn McKay, along with Clara Vaz and Evie Marvich.
In the Championship race, which included schools from Kentucky and all over Ohio, the girls got out well and looked strong early. The race was a fierce battle, and many teams went back and forth, competing for the top spots.
Atalia Hawkins led Mason, and she finished quite well, with a strong early-season time. Next up for us was Auna Koro, who looked strong, and Emily Moran, who had a great race. Tessa Palmer and Eva Mathur rounded out our top 5 scorers and helped the team achieve a 7th-place finish overall.
Next up for the Comets is the annual Mason Invitational at Corwin Nixon Park on Saturday, Sept. 6th.

MASON FOOTBALL FALLS TO SPRINGBORO
Mason Football season kicked off this past Friday in the Hall of Fame Game at Dwire Field. The outcome is not what was hoped as the Comets suffered a 21-7 defeat at the hands of Springboro.
The Panthers did all their scoring in the first half putting up three TD's while holding Mason in check. The Comets got on the board at the 5:25 mark in the third quarter via a 1-yard rush by Brandon Birsong. The remainer of the game was a defensive struggle as neither team found pay dirt.
The Comets will travel to Lakota West this Friday to face the 0-1 Firebirds for the first GMC battle of the young season.

BOYS GOLF WEEKEND RESULTS
On Saturday, August 23, the Mason Boys Golfers traveled to Bellbrook, Ohio, to compete at Sugar Valley Golf Club against 20 other Southwest Ohio teams in the Bellbrook Invitational. Senior Curtis Crimmins once again had the team's lowest score, shooting a 74 (+3) to just miss out on second-team all-tournament honors (the top 10 players in the event had scores of 73 or lower). Junior Jaxson Hutzelman overcame a slow start to post an excellent round of 76 (+5), while seniors Alex Chamberlain and Sam O'Donnell recorded rounds of 88 and 81, respectively. Junior Jack Hellman overcame a very slow start by making two birdies on his second nine to post the team's fourth-best score of 84.
--------------------
On Sunday, the MHS Boys Golf Team played in the St. Xavier Invitational, competing in an elite field of 16 teams from all around Ohio. The event was moved from its usual site of Maketewah Country Club to a first-time host venue, Stonelick Hills Golf Club in Batavia - a course that no one on the team had played before. Mason's players didn't fare as well in the difficult conditions as some other teams did, with the Comets posting a season-high team total score of 344 and finishing last among the 16 teams.
Sophomore Logan Harter had the team's best score by two strokes with an 84. Other team scores recorded belonged to seniors Curtis Crimmins (86) and Alex Chamberlain (87), and juniors Andrew Atchley (87) and Jaxson Hutzelman (88).
The team competes next in the Kettering Alter Invitational at Country Club of the North in Beavercreek, Ohio, TODAY, Monday afternoon, August 25th. This will be the team's 3rd tournament in 3 days around Southwest Ohio, but it's important this time of year that the Comets are competing and preparing to play multiple days in a row. The GMC Championship starts in only 15 days!
