We arrived late to a football game in West Virginia once. When we left our car about half a mile from the stadium, my team was only behind by one touchdown. Along the way, we heard a roar. Knowing it came from the local fans, we realized we were further behind. By the time we arrived in our seats, we were four touchdowns behind. Each time the Mountaineers scored we heard a roar. They routed my team that night.
Sometimes a roar signifies good news, though. When John approached God’s throne room again, he heard the roar of a great multitude shouting. They had been invited to the great wedding feast of the Lamb. The roar sounded like Niagara falls! Imagine all the good news of every wedding in history combined in one space. Will it be loud?
Good news: you are invited to that wedding. Better news, we, the people of God are the bride. We will be clothed in the fine linen of righteous acts we have done. Our Prince will come riding a white stallion with the title King of Kings and Lord of Lord emblazoned on his robe and his thigh. The roar John heard was not the roar of defeat but the roar of victory. Someday, by God’s grace, we will hear that roar. Ears open. We are almost home.
