Where Passion Meets Opportunity

Murfreesboro Named Fastest Growing City in the State and 10th fastest in the US!
America's cities are the beating heart of its economy and culture.
The US Census Bureau recently released its annual population estimates for 752 cities and towns across the country with at least 50,000 residents. Using that data, Business Insider found the city in each state with the highest percent change in population between July 1, 2015, and July 1, 2016.
Here's the fastest-growing city in each of the other 45 states, along with the percent change in population between 2015 and 2016. Source

Back by popular demand, we have added another hands-on coding camp this summer for incoming 3rd through 5th graders. Each camper will develop basic coding skills as they make their own apps with MIT's Scratch coding platform.
No experience is necessary. Camp dates are July 10-14.  Deadline for sign-ups is June 30th.

Internship Highlight in DNJ

Our very own Summer Internship Program was spotlighted on the front page of the DNJ paper last week.
Here are a few highlights:
“We consider this program as an investment in our future,” said Roger Case, chief operating officer of Ole South Construction.  “We have to get more young adults interested in our industry in order to sustain the growth in our area.”
“You can read all the books in the world about a topic, but until you do it, you do not have real experience,” said Riley about her experience thus far.

Rutherford Works invited to the White House

On Wednesday, June 14, the Rutherford Works team was invited by the White House to be a part of President Trump's announcement at the Department of Labor promoting work-based learning.  Holli Montgomery, President of Schwan Cosmetics, Tyra Pilgrim, CTE Director for Rutherford County Schools, Ryan Pierce, 2017 Blackman High School graduate and a freshman at the University of Memphis accompanied Beth Duffield, Senior Vice President for Education & Workforce Development at the Rutherford County Chamber.  Though the official event was canceled due to unfortunate events in the DC area, the group was able to meet with Senator Alexander’s education policy writers and Labor Secretary Acosta to discuss the value of Career & Technical Education, the Rutherford Works Summer Internship as well as Schwan Cosmetics’ apprenticeship for maintenance techs.  The group invited by the white house included examples of work-based learning successes from Tennessee, Georgia and Indiana.  All of these states are a part of Jobs for the Future Pathways to Prosperity work nationally.
TN Chamber / TN Manufacturers Association Meeting
Let's Talk Manufacturing!

The Tennessee Chamber, which also serves as the Tennessee Manufacturing Association, is going statewide this summer partnering with local chambers to host manufacturing roundtables across the state.  Manufacturing is critical to our economic growth and the roundtables will allow important networking opportunities to hear from leaders about important policy topics impacting manufacturing.
Denise Rice, the new Director for the Tennessee Manufacturers Association is conducting the events, and we hope you can join us!  Most importantly, we want to hear from manufacturers about their most pressing concerns and how we can partner to find solutions.
