SOLVE-CHD Spotlight
Meet our team with a mini Q&A!

Susie Cartledge

Dr Susie Cartledge is a Registered Nurse and a Senior Research Fellow, whose research focuses on patient education and the secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease. In particular Susie is interested in improving Phase I cardiac rehab and the transition of care between hospital, discharge home and commencement of rehab.
What is your favourite thing about your role?
The diversity that any one day can bring – you can be out recruiting patients in the morning, analysing data, meeting with the team or giving a talk, all in one day!
What are you working on at the moment?
Two main things at the moment; 1) a data linkage in Victoria to map a cardiac patients journey from inpatient through to cardiac rehabilitation attendance – this hasn’t been done for 20 years! And 2) a co-designed patient education and transition of care website for cardiac patients and their families, called “HeartPath+”
Why is this project especially interesting or important to you?
I love the diversity of both projects – working on the data linkage enables us to see the big picture of cardiac patient journeys in Victoria and then the contrast of working with patients and families on co-design and being able to spend time with them understanding their experiences and journey.
What do you like most about SOLVE-CHD?
It’s been fabulous to be involved in SOLVE-CHD – such an amazing network of lovely people doing good work. That’s the dream – doing important work with good people! And they are always fun to dance with on any conference dance floor!
What is a recent achievement you’re proud of?
Being recognised as leading the consumer work within my team at Monash Uni – my team is predominantly quantitative (and includes large cardiac registries) but hopefully I demonstrate the importance of qualitative data, in addition to building a consumer registry that we can tap into for all our projects.
What do you like to do outside of research?
I love being outside in my slowing evolving garden, with my toddler! We hang out weeding, collecting caterpillars, watering the plants – it’s the best being outside in nature!
