Our Values, Our Aspirations: A Jewish Communal Conversation Federation is proud to launch our innovative, multi-year partnership with The Shalom Hartman Institute of North America, one of the leading centers of Jewish thought and education serving Israel and world Jewry. We will offer our community members opportunities to explore pressing questions facing the Jewish community today, including Jewish identity, Israel-Diaspora relationships and civic engagement. Our partnership begins with an evening of conversation on October 16, featuring Shalom Hartman Institute of North America President, Yehuda Kurtzer. Together, we’ll engage on the fascinating topic of The Moral, the Political and the Partisan: Jewish Community and Jewish Values in an Era of Polarization. Inside, Outside, All Year Round The fall holidays keep on coming. The Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur, is in our rear-view mirror. But a 25-hour period of contemplation, prayer and fasting, should really be of lasting influence to help us focus on our individual improvement in the coming year. An important prayer on Yom Kippur provides us with a three-part suggestion to guide our behavior. “Stuff” will inevitably happen to each of us over time, but teshuvah, tefillah and tzedakah—repentance, prayer and righteousness—can make a real difference in our lives.
