Our Values, Our Aspirations: A Jewish Communal Conversation Federation is proud to launch our innovative, multi-year partnership with The Shalom Hartman Institute of North America, one of the leading centers of Jewish thought and education serving Israel and world Jewry. We will offer our community members opportunities to explore pressing questions facing the Jewish community today, including Jewish identity, Israel-Diaspora relationships and civic engagement. Our partnership begins with an evening of conversation on October 16, featuring Shalom Hartman Institute of North America President, Yehuda Kurtzer. By Staying Informed, We Stay Connected: A Message from Gil Preuss on the Washington Jewish Week At the heart of every thriving Jewish community is a strong Jewish publication. Jewish media outlets bring us information and opinions on a local, national and international scale that affect how we lead our Jewish lives. By staying informed, we also stay connected to one another. Federation has proudly been a long-time supporter of the Washington Jewish Week and its efforts to connect and strengthen our community. Today, we are pleased to share that the Washington Jewish Week team has offered to introduce or re-introduce you to its publication with no financial commitment for one full year. Inside, Outside, All Year Round The fall holidays keep on coming. The Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur, is in our rear-view mirror. But a 25-hour period of contemplation, prayer and fasting, should really be of lasting influence to help us focus on our individual improvement in the coming year. An important prayer on Yom Kippur provides us with a three-part suggestion to guide our behavior. “Stuff” will inevitably happen to each of us over time, but teshuvah, tefillah and tzedakah—repentance, prayer and righteousness—can make a real difference in our lives.
