In Week 1 of our ASP 096 class, we began exploring the concept of L@s GANAS and its significant impact on students over the years, understanding how it has motivated and inspired them. To provide a break and help students relax, we distributed pop-its, which allowed everyone a moment to unwind and recharge. Following this, we engaged in an icebreaker activity where we played bingo, a fun way to connect with others and discover common interests. The first 15 students to complete their bingo cards were rewarded with either a tote or a tumbler, adding an element of excitement and friendly competition to the event. To conclude the day, we reflected on our aspirations and goals for the upcoming Fall '24 semester, sharing our visions and hopes for how we want the new term to unfold.

In week 1 of our BIOS 294 research class for L@s GANAS, we had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Aixa Alfonso and Dr. Santarsiero. We got the chance to individually introduce ourselves, and we quickly learned that students in the class had great resilience and had overcome significant obstacles in their STEM classes. Dr. Alfonso gave us a slideshow presentation on statistics for Latino and minority students. From this presentation, we gathered that students of color are underperforming in their classes. This is why L@s GANAS is a dedicated organization that provides invaluable resources to Latinos in healthcare. After some discourse, we met our Director, Liz Ramirez. We took a group photo and ended the class on a high note. Overall, we are glad we got to meet like-minded individuals and a team that cares about its students. We cannot wait to be a part of L@s GANAS this year!!
