Happy New Year! It was quite a 2019 up here at Adventurist HQ, and we sent it off in style (the white squirrels demanded confetti). 2020 is already looking like a spectacular year and what’s more, a spectacular time to visit Transylvania County.

If you’re looking for some great adds to your Resolutions List, “see more waterfalls” and “set off on an unforgettable adventure” are never bad places to start. There are plenty of great activities in January to put you on an exciting new path — fly fishing, art, theatre and so much more.  So start checking off your list. Make this your year of adventure.

Pick up your guitar, load up the bass and join some of Transylvania’s most talented local musicians at this weekly jam session at Brevard’s lively Lumberyard. All are welcome to sing, play or just sit back and enjoy the wonderful music. 

Those seeking a bit of respite before diving right into 2020 could do worse than to take part in this relaxing midweek workshop, led by coach Cynthia Radford. Breathe in the crisp mountain air, gently reconnect with nature, and enter a new year recharged and renewed. 

Bring your blankets, sheets and pillows, and create your own imaginative nook for reading at the Library. Builders and architects of all ages are welcome to try their hands. Snacks will be provided. 

Angling for a big catch in the New Year? Join Davidson River Outfitters owner Kevin Howell for an informative class on local fly-tying, including patterns he developed himself, specifically engineered for this area. 

Whether expert or novice, this twice weekly class allows clay enthusiasts of all stripes the opportunity to work on their hand-building, wheel-throwing and whatever skills their next great pottery project requires.

The course of true love never did run smooth, and this hilarious new romantic comedy proves that doubly true when seeking a soulmate online. Brevard Little Theatre brings this silly and sweet tale to lovable life just in time to get audiences amped for Valentine’s Day.
