In this issue: State of Nursing in Kansas Report coming soon, August Research Committee
This newsletter is 506 words long, about an 2-minute read.

Hello colleagues and friends!
It may be the dog days of summer, but we’re counting down the days to the first week in September, when we will debut the inaugural State of Nursing in Kansas Report at the Kansas Organization of Nurse Leaders meeting and the Kansas Hospital Association convention.
During formal statewide listening sessions, more than 200 stakeholders told us they needed credible information about the nursing workforce. They noted that there are many sources of nursing data, but no single, broad source of information. This was their highest priority.
The State of Nursing in Kansas Report directly meets this request for better nursing workforce information. It will include charts and infographics describing the supply of the nursing workforce in Kansas as compared to the national nursing workforce, as well as original research on the Value of Nursing and maternity care in Kansas.
The goal of the report is to:
|
-
Arm Kansas leaders, decision makers, and communities with better information in order to make informed decisions about the nursing workforce.
- Serve as a vital resource for workforce research, decision making and program development, as well as the formulation of public policy and funding plans.
- Answer emerging questions about the supply, demand, impact, and value of nursing.
|
We hope you are as excited about the Report as we are. The report will be available online and in print formats.
Are you coming to the Kansas Hospital Association convention? If yes, be sure to visit us at booth 238 (go to your left as you enter the exhibit hall and down the second row) on September 5 and 6 to get your copy.
See you soon!

Make plans to attend the August Research Meeting
|
Lisa Guthrie and Maryellen Potts present at the National Forum of State Nursing Workforce Centers in San Diego in June.
|
|
|
Lisa Guthrie, PhD, RN, NPD-BC, University of Kansas Health System, and Maryellen Potts, PhD, University of Kansas School of Nursing, will present their original research, Hospital-based Patient Care Assistants’ Perceptions of Preparedness to Work and Intent to Stay, at the next research committee meeting, August 22, 2024 from 10-11 a.m..
They will share their research on pathways into the nursing profession outside of academics, and how Patient Care Assistants (PCAs) felt about preparedness in comparison to their intent to stay in the healthcare workforce.
Why it matters: Knowing how PCAs feel about the work they do and how they feel about their work environment is key to retaining and sustaining an important team member of the nursing workforce.
If you would like to attend, please sign up here.
