SBCC to begin Fall fully online

Superintendent/President Dr. Utpal K. Goswami announced an update regarding plans for the Fall 2020 semester. Given current community conditions, classes will start fully online. Although the plan is for all  courses to begin online, the College will be pursuing a very limited exemption for some classes that support essential and critical infrastructure. SBCC announces hiring of two new deans

As Santa Barbara City College prepares for the Fall 2020 semester, two well-respected employees will be assuming new roles as deans. Paloma Arnold has been selected as the next Dean of Student Affairs, and Elizabeth M. Imhof, Ph.D., has been chosen as the new Dean of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

Music Department rises to the challenge of teaching music classes online

From the moment last March when SBCC made the decision to move all instruction online for the remainder of the Spring semester, the Music Department knew it had better prepare for the situation to extend beyond Spring.

Jasmyne Perry is new SBCC Head Softball Coach

Earlier this month, SBCC Director of Athletics Rocco Constantino announced the hiring of Jasymne Perry as the new Head Softball Coach of the Vaqueros. Perry, an SBCC alum, takes over for Justine Bosio, who resigned earlier this summer. Perry had been Bosio's assistant coach the past two seasons and played for SBCC during the 2010 and 2011 seasons.

COVID Conversations focus on athletics

The SBCC Foundation's series of virtual gatherings, “COVID Conversations: How SBCC is Meeting the Moment,” features updates from leaders of various campus departments and programs on how they are adapting to the challenges brought about by COVID-19, followed by a Q&A.  
On Thursday, July 30, Physical Education Department Chair Kathy O’Connor, Associate Athletic Director Ellen O’Connor and Athletic Department Chair Rocco Constantino presented “Movement at the Moment: SBCC Physical Education and Athletics Programs in the Time of COVID.” View the recorded session...

SBCC Promise orientation goes virtual in Spanish and English

The SBCC Foundation held the first-ever virtual SBCC Promise orientation on Aug. 11 in Spanish and Aug. 12 in English. Over 100 parents, current SBCC students, prospective SBCC students and community members attended. The SBCC Promise provides all recent, local high school graduates with the opportunity to attend Santa Barbara City College full-time free of charge, for up to two years. 

Journalists for The Channels told they are “way ahead of the game”

In a recent recruitment video for SBCC's student newspaper, The Channels, past and present students praised the education and experience they have gained. One student who ultimately transferred to San Francisco State University was told by her journalism professor that she was “way ahead of the game” compared to other students. Channels alumni at other four-year institutions were told the same. Watch the video...

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, and in compliance with the Governor’s Executive Orders N-29-20 and N-33-20, the Board has temporarily suspended physical meetings. To watch via livestream, you can find the link after 1 p.m. on the day of the meeting posted on SBCC Official social media channels:
