This is Good Monday! I know it is not on the official calendars, but it is on mine and some of my friends’ schedules. Imagine the disciples waking up the first Monday after Easter and realizing it was all true. If Friday was Good because of the crucifixion, how much more Monday after? I usually celebrate this day with friends visiting the bass family at a lake near Somerville, Texas.
John tells us Peter went back to fishing after Easter as well (John 21). Peter knew he needed to forgive 70 X 7 times. The problem was he could not forgive himself. But Jesus restored him on the banks of the Sea of Galilee. Peter found Christ’s forgiveness and learned to forgive himself.
The early Christians celebrated Easter for seven weeks all the way through Pentecost. So how should we celebrate this good Monday? We must start by offering forgiveness to all who need and ask for forgiveness. If you are looking for a place to start, start with yourself. Then by all means forgive others, and see how it sets you and them free.
