Genesis 12:8
From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord.
New International Version (NIV)
Have you ever been on a prayer walk?  I first heard of the concept in the 1990’s. The idea is to walk through an area like a neighborhood, watching, listening and praying for God’s work to be done in the people who live or work there.

Abraham may well have been the first to take a prayer walk.   Once he obeyed God and arrived in the promised land, he stopped periodically to build an altar and call on the name of the Lord.  He consecrated every foot of the land to God through prayer.  Two generations later his grandson would encounter God in that place of prayer and call it Bethel, the house of God.

Now it is our turn.  As the presence of Christ we pray everywhere we go.  In this way we bless our neighbors and co-workers praying silent prayers for them and their families.  Who knows? Maybe one of our descendants will encounter God in the very place we pray today.  Wherever we go today, we may be sure God is awesome in that place.  So pray as you walk!

Pray with me:
You are awesome in this place mighty God, Abba, Father.  Help us to see you every place you take us today.  Hear our prayers as we consecrate our world for your Kingdom purposes.  Let us see others as you do, loving them as we love ourselves.  Your Kingdom come!  Your will be done right here even as it is in heaven.  In Jesus’ name. Amen.
