The Mile Marker By FMCA

The Road To Health And Wellness
Readers, this month, we focus on YOU – your physical and mental health and well-being. Yes, yes, we know: RVers are already miles ahead of other folks in that area. You travel for enjoyment, perhaps to a rally or a family gathering. You explore nature’s beauty and take in popular tourist attractions. You relish a comfortable campground spot, perhaps meeting some great neighbors parked alongside you.
Maybe you live in your RV 24/7. You may use it as a home office or as a mobile classroom for young students aboard. Or if you’re a weekend warrior, the RV may be a practical vehicle to get from Point A to Point B for that football game or race or other sporting event. Or. . . .
Regardless of why you roam, the freedom found behind the wheel is priceless. We want to build on that. We hope the information below can help you ramp up your RV lifestyle another notch . . . and lead to a healthier, happier you.
The FMCA Team

FMCA Chapters: The Heart Of It All
Tucson KOA Luau 2021
Cindy and I joined FMCA in December 2019. I was impressed with the organization of both FMCA and the Rocky Mountain Motorhome Association (RMMA). I petitioned to form the Southwest Sun Chasers chapter in the fall of 2020. We have enjoyed outings with our new chapter and with the RMMA, and we also attended FMCA’s international convention in Gillette, Wyoming, in August 2021. Please visit our chapter website: Southwest Sun Chasers FMCA Chapter (shutterfly.com).

One of the best parts of FMCA is meeting other members along the way.  And one of the best ways to meet members along the way is to join an FMCA Chapter. Find and connect with like-minded RVers who share your same interests, hobbies, and love for RVing. Who knows; maybe you're even from the same town!
How Do I?

Fall Into Well-Being
Fall can be such a beautiful time of the year to be out in nature. The leaves are starting to turn from vibrant shades of green to warm, rich reds and browns. The humidity begins to break, allowing the days to become more comfortable and appealing. You may even feel the urge to be outside more, go for a walk, take a hike, or simply get out and explore.
What you might take note of is that this inviting time of year, coupled with being outside, can really bring a better understanding of Mother Nature’s healing powers. Actually, it’s a proven fact that being in nature is linked with an abundance of personal benefits, both mentally and physically. You can read more about it in this article by Kirsten Weir, Nurtured by nature, which was written for and published by the American Psychological Association in 2020.

Autumn RVing
Many people think summer is the best season to travel, but others know that fall is also a perfect time for experiencing the RV lifestyle to the fullest. Camping in the fall is a great way to connect with nature while also focusing on your well-being. The change in season promotes new adventures and opportunities to become more in tune with yourself and with your surroundings while you travel.
The Dyrt Magazine shares their Ultimate 2021 Fall Foliage Camping Road Trip, where RVers can enjoy the best autumn color across the country. Enjoy the peaceful scenery of each stop and take in the crisp, cool air. You Are What You Eat
Whether you live to eat or eat to live, you can improve your physical health with smarter food choices. But did you know that a good diet improves your mental health as well? Doctors and nutritionists tell us foods that have the right mix of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants can increase cognitive function, provide a better response to stress, lower anxiety and depression, and improve moods.
So, what are some of these great foods?
1. Green, leafy vegetables — kale, spinach, collard greens, etc.
2. Berries — especially blueberries
3. Healthy fats — raw or dry-roasted nuts (walnuts receive a gold star), extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, avocados
4. Omega-3 fatty acids – plentiful in cold-water fish; also in flaxseed, chia seeds, and walnuts
5. Beans and lentils — brimming with brainy B vitamins
Conversely, steer clear of processed foods, including those with refined sugar and refined carbs.
Recipe tip: Forgo your ranch dressing. Instead, drizzle your salad with olive oil and lemon juice; or, try this Spring Onion & Avocado Salad Dressing.
