Do you ever think you missed your window of opportunity? Do you feel like you have waited too long to fulfill your dream. I love the story of S. L. Potter. He was in his nineties when he bungee-jumped for the first time. His kids tried to talk him out of it. But he went anyway. What were his first words after he completed the jump? “Now give me back my teeth!” I love the tenacity.
Noah was 600 when he went on the ark. Again, I am not sure if the years correspond exactly to our way of timing. But it seems by any count that he was advanced in years. Still, it was not too late for him to obey God. God used him greatly to fulfill his purpose in the world.
Trevor Hudson says: “There are messages only you can speak, songs only you can sing, acts of righteousness that only you can fulfill.” God has a specific plan for your life and mine. Are we fulfilling that purpose? What is hindering us? For Noah, God’s will began with trust. In obedience to God, he did what no one else had ever done.
When I was in graduate school, my grandfather called my dad and asked for me to come up and see him. It was late in my granddad’s life. He was on dialysis and did not have long to live. Granddad wanted me to come and talk to him about the Lord. So I did. My grandfather prayed to receive Christ and followed the Lord in baptism, though it must have been difficult, with the shunt in his arm and the health challenges he faced. As a boy he had traveled with an uncle who was a preacher. I am sure he had heard the truth many times. But late in life, he fulfilled God’s plan for his life and became a follower of Jesus. As we were traveling back to the airport, my dad asked me if I thought it was too late for grandpa to become a Christian. “It is never too late to follow the Lord,” I said. “And it is never too early.” Now is a great time!
