"Bridgeport launches marketing drive" - Connecticut Post
Bridgeport, Conn. recently launched a new marketing campaign, promoting the city and how it’s growing an economy that works for everyone.
The campaign consists of TV, radio, and digital ads, as well as a new website (www.Bridgeportbettereveryday.com), collectively telling the story of how the state’s largest city is getting better every day.
David Kooris, the city’s economic development director, noted that the goal of the campaign is to boost confidence in the city and its future, specifically amongst job creators, residents, and investors across Fairfield County and beyond.
“Bridgeport’s getting better every day,” said Kooris. “It’s becoming a place where companies want to invest and hire people, where people want to live and work, and where our strong communities are making for an even stronger economy. We want to ensure that job creators, Bridgeport residents, and folks in neighboring communities know this is the case. That’s what this marketing campaign is all about. And, who better to tell the story than the people who are living it.”
The overall marketing campaign will consist of six TV ads and radio spots–combined with digital ads and the website–which will run into the new year. The first television and radio ads feature Bridgeport native and resident, Marshan Coleman.
"Bridgeport to design second train station" - News 12
Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch spoke with News 12 on Sunday about the plans for a new train station in the City. Mayor Finch said that state officials have given the city control over the design of its second train station.
Finch said the new train station will be built on Barnum Avenue across from the old Remington Arms site, thanks to a grant from the state of more than $2.5 million.
The mayor said state officials recognized the need for Bridgeport to design its own station. "Maybe it can be a train station that looks a little more like Stamford than just a loading platform. When the city of Bridgeport can control its own destiny, it's always better," he says.

"Black Rock apartment plans taking shape" - Connecticut Post

Construction has restarted on 56 market-rate units At 3336 Fairfield Ave., not far from the Fairfield line, a lot that backs on Ash Creek.
Development came to a halt after the housing crash and recession of 2007. But a recovering economy has brought the project back, and final approvals were granted last month.
"Seeing this development restart, a project that is bringing more residents to our city, is further evidence that Bridgeport is getting better every day," said Mayor Bill Finch.
The project will also include public waterfront access.
Local leaders say they are encouraged by the developments.
"It's been very active on Fairfield Avenue," said Gerry Manning, president of the Black Rock Neighborhood Revitalization Zone.
“Bridgeport spins energy from former landfill” – Fairfield Business Journal
Exploring the feasibility of solar and fuel cell energy production, Bridgeport has become a leader in renewable energy. The city is notable for its clean energy projects, including the building of the Dominion fuel cell park, the largest of its kind in North America.
Recently, another renewable energy project was approved. The state Siting Council voted in favor of the planned Green Energy Park, which calls for nearly 9,000 solar panels and a 2.8-megawatt fuel cell on Bridgeport’s abandoned landfill. The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is reviewing an application submitted by The United Illuminating Co. The New-Haven based regional electric distribution company will oversee the execution and maintenance of the energy park project.
“If you look at what’s happening worldwide, the largest tool for fighting climate change is urbanization,” Finch said. “It’s about getting people to live closer together, cutting down on vehicle miles traveled and living in economies of scale that will allow people to build mass transit. We need more adjoining walls to conserve energy and housing units that are built attached rather than detached. The whole urbanization trend will pay huge dividends.”
"City Honors Firefighters After Heroic Rescue in Bridgeport" -  NBC Connecticut
Three firefighters risked it all to save the life of a 93-year-old woman trapped in a burning building, and on Monday night city leaders gathered in Bridgeport to say thank you.
Firefighters Bobby Hernandez and Richard Messer and Lt. Neil Carr were among those called to the Bennett Street blaze the night of Nov. 19. An 87-year-old man made it out safely but the woman was still upstairs, locked in a second-floor bedroom, according to city officials.
