Wisdom is not hereditary. Given the chance, Solomon restored a baby to its rightful mother without harm. The Queen of Sheba marveled at his insight. Solomon exuded wisdom.
Solomon's son, Rehoboam lived with his wise father and likely enjoyed access to the book of Proverbs. Still, he squandered his opportunity and lost leadership of Israel. His desire to look powerful divided the people of God.
Every leader faces the opportunity to unite the organization or divide it. In Falls County, I drove past an empty church building. A leader chose to divide the church and disenfranchise those who disagreed with him. Nobody worships there today.
Pastors are entrusted with the leadership of God's people. Those who love their people well, wisely seek to unite them in Christ. No wonder Paul told his readers to "make every effort to preserve the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace" (Ephesians 4:3). As far as it depends on us, are we doing so? This is wisdom.
