G. S. T. Which time zone are you in? As we fly to Charleston we will lose an hour. It is later there than in Houston. But my friend Tim Gilmore spoke to me at the grocery store this week. "G. S. T.," he said. "God's standard time," I replied. He smiled and nodded his head.
When the Lord showed up at Abraham and Sarah's tent, he told them they would have a son within the next year. They had heard this promise before. Months had turned into years and into decades. Sarah was past child-bearing years. She laughed at the thought of having a child in her old age. Preposterous. Impossible, Sarah thought as she chuckled under her breath. The messenger asked her why she laughed. Sarah lied and said she didn't. The messenger told her she had.
On our timetable, lots of things are impossible. Twenty-seven years ago, I would have laughed at the thought that God would allow me the privilege to pastor Tallowood for these years. "No way!" I would have said. We may think like Jeremiah we are just too young for God to bless us. Or like Sarah, we may think the time has passed for God to give us the desire of our hearts. Wherever you are today, you are living on GST, God's standard time. Nothing is impossible for him. Laugh if you will but know for sure that God gets the last laugh. His purpose prevails in our lives. Trust him today to do what he says. We may laugh, but God will smile. He knows what he is about to do.
