Parent Education Resources of the week - Topic: Key Resources
Welcome Back! We are here to help, and with so many different communications from teachers, district and school administrators, we wanted to offer a quick go-to list of links for our most commonly asked questions. Our staff is working hard to answer all questions as quickly as possible and we are excited to support our Viking families and teach your students again! Our website has all of the latest information, including copies of communications that went home, directories, resources, calendars and more! Check the website for quick links to help you!
Helpful Organizational Tool to keep track of Zoom links for your Student: HERE
Clever - This is the new portal!
Parents will log in to Clever. This parent portal gives parents access to buttons for ParentVUE, Schoology, and other district systems.
Students will log in to Clever .
The username is their email address and their password is the password they ended last school year with or the default (for new students). Student accounts use the student’s ID number. If you do not have a ParentVUE account, you can request an account and activation code here.
Examples:
Returning student:
Username is studentid#@apps.nsd.org, for example 3333333@apps.nsd.org
Their password is the password they used last year. If they don’t remember that password, a staff member can reset their password for them.
New student in grades 4-12:
Username is studentid#@apps.nsd.org, for example 7777777@apps.nsd.org
Their password is their 8-digit birthdate, for example 04042010.
Schoology- This is for you to monitor student progress, view course materials and assignments, and communicate with teachers. Schoology is our district’s new Learning Management System. It replaces systems that were used last year to distribute class assignments and learning materials.
To login to Schoology, parents will login to Clever and click on the Schoology for Parents tile. Enter your email and password. If you have not activated your account, click “Forgot your password” on the Schoology login screen. Enter the email associated with your Northshore account. An email will be sent with password reset information. If you have not received the email within 48 hours, please contact your school office.
Students will log into Schoology by logging into Clever and clicking on the Schoology tile.
Attendance Reporting- Yes, you still have to email if your student misses class, or has an appointment.
email pkartchner@nsd.org with your student's name, ID number, date of absence and periods missed.
Counseling Questions- Becky Goodman is the Counseling office manager who can help you with ParentVue activation codes, transcript requests, and directing you to the right counselor. Email rgoodman@nsd.org.
OTHER QUESTIONS: Not sure who to ask?
Susan Dapper (Main office Manager) and Anna Shipley (Main office Secretary) can help!
If they don't know the answer, they can direct you to the right person!

News from the IB Coordinators:
9/8 Welcome Back Viking families to an unprecedented school year. We suspect you have lots of questions of about the May 2021 examination session and the truth is, we do too! But we also have good news regarding the May 2020 session.
At the moment, we are prioritizing our classes, student’s schedules and the accuracy of our lists and databases. We are about a week away from pivoting our attention to our exam registration season with the goal of posting informational recordings for you by the end of September.
Here’s what we can tell you about May 2021
Due to the loss of instructional time during this global crisis, the IBO has adjusted the examination requirements for May of 2021. For most every subject they have eliminated some content and reduced the number of questions that students will need to answer. This is welcome news, particularly for Northshore teachers who can now reduce content during Northshore Learns 3.0. The Coordinators will continue to monitor the 2021 examination situation and provide our administrative team with any updates or changes.
The 2020 Exams
In response to the pandemic, the IBO altered its May Examination session. IB exams consist of two parts, the “sit-down” examinations and the internal assessments which are administered by classroom teachers. Along with internal assessments, some IB subjects include portfolio items which are also collected by classroom teachers. Even though the “sit-down” examinations were cancelled, IB schools worked with the IBO to collect as many of these locally produced assessments and submit them to the IB for evaluation. These assessments, which typically make up at least 20% of the IB score, were used, along with teacher produced Predicted Grades, to award a final score. These scores are official and are being used just as any official IB score was used in the past - they count towards university admission, they are applied towards the awarding of credit and, for the class of 2021, can be reported on college applications.
The 2020 Exams at Inglemoor
Through unprecedented collaboration between students, teachers, parents, the IB Coordinators, the Inglemoor administrative team and the district administrative team, more than 95% of all IB students were able to complete and submit their assessments. Inglemoor teachers spent countless hours helping students complete and submit their assessments. The World Language teachers proved to be heroic, as they had to administer and assess oral examinations in a remote setting. In cases where a few students simply could not complete their assessments, the students, their families, the IB Coordinators and their administrators worked diligently to ensure that the students could fulfill graduation requirements and earn their High School Diploma. The results of the 2020 examinations were consistent with the results over our 21-year history of the program, that is to say they were excellent.
74 of 82 Diploma Candidates earned their IB Diplomas, a pass rate of 90.6%. More significantly, of the 78 students that were able to complete all of the DP requirements, 74 scored enough points to earn the Diploma, a pass rate of 94.9%. The average pass rate for the previous five years is 92.3%. The average Diploma score was 32 points. The average score for the previous five years is 31.4 percent.
A total of 231 students completed 835 examinations in 29 different subjects. The average exam score for 2020 was 5.05 (out of 7). The average score for the previous five years is 4.95. Of the 231 students, 224 achieved a score of 4 or more on at least one exam, which means that 97% of all students who took exams in 2020 passed at least one exam. This is important because legislation passed in Washington State in 2019 directed public state colleges to award credit for IB exams score of 4 and above.
We are eager to work and support your students this year and to help provide some sense of routine and normalcy in these sad and troubled times. Thank you in advance for your patience and support in what will most likely be another challenging school year.
With appreciation and gratitude to the Inglemoor community,
Chris McQueen, IB Diploma Coordinator
Amy Monaghan, IB Diploma Coordinator
Elizabeth Lund, CAS, EE Coordinator
