Strengthening a Global Jewish Community in a Changing World: A Message from Gil Preuss
Last week, I had the opportunity to attend The Jewish Agency for Israel’s Board of Governors meeting. During our time together, we discussed the many ways the organization is evolving alongside Jewish life and community. The team knows that to be as effective as possible, they must consider the areas in which they want to deepen their impact, as well as the areas in which they want to innovate and try something new. I know that no matter what the future holds, we need organizations like JAFI who empower and connect Jews around the world and inspire the next generation to build a brighter Jewish future.

Thank You for Pausing with Pittsburgh
On October 27 at 5 p.m., thousands around the world joined together to stand in solidarity with our sisters and brothers in Pittsburgh, and to remember the 11 people murdered by an anti-Semitic gunman in the Tree of Life Building one year ago. Thank you to the many who helped spread the word and to those joined us from across Greater Washington for this powerful moment. If you missed it, you can still view the memorial video and leave a message of solidarity. Federation is committed to continuing to bring our community together – not only in times of crisis, but at all times. We will not let hate and violence define our community.

Jewish Families Find Community Through Ambassador Program
Every new mom knows the feeling. You go from 60 to 0 in a matter of days. One moment it's parties, pre-maternity-leave meetings and overflowing guestrooms. The next, you're alone with a little stranger, no sleep and a new lifestyle, the reality of which you never could have imagined. It's not surprising that 90 percent of mothers reported feelings of "loneliness" and 54 percent "friendless" after having children, according to a survey conducted by Channel Mums (2017). But thanks to the support of our community members, Federation's j.family Ambassadors program, run through our local JCCs, is providing opportunities for connection and support during this important transitional time for local families.

Cheer on the World Series Champions, the Washington Nationals, at Grand Slam Sunday 2020!
Congratulations to the Washington Nationals, the 2019 World Series Champions, and to the Lerner family, for never giving up the fight! Our beloved team fought against great odds with dedication, resilience, and unwavering trust in each other to bring the championship home. As we look to an exciting new season, mark your calendars to cheer on the Nats at Federation's Grand Slam Sunday: Jewish Community Day at Nationals Park on August 30, 2020, when they take on the Philadelphia Phillies (and Bryce Harper!). See you at the ballpark!

Federation Welcomes Robert Graves, Our Community's New Regional Security Advisor
We are proud to welcome Robert Graves to our community as the new Regional Security Advisor to the National Capital region. In his new role, Robert will ensure that Federation and the Secure Community Network continue to protect the 300,000 members of the Maryland, Washington, DC, and the Northern Virginia Jewish community who worship and attend area synagogues, day schools, and other facilities. He will also serve as Federation's Director of Security. Robert succeeds Mark Jardina, who continues to be a valuable resource and source of information throughout the transition.
