Yay Lunch Update: Lunch Service Suspended
Dear St. Michael's Families:
We are writing regarding an important update regarding hot lunch service at St. Michael's. As shared previously, St. Michael’s has been in a multi-year partnership with Yay Lunch as the provider of our hot lunch service. Yay Lunch also provides lunch service for 16 other Richmond independent schools.
While this relationship overall has been successful and reliable in the past, Yay Lunch made changes to their operational structure for this school year which have been problematic and fraught with customer service issues.
Unfortunately, we were informed by Yay Lunch late yesterday that they will be discontinuing operations in the Richmond and Charlottesville markets effective November 17.
So what does this mean moving forward?
- At this time, St. Michael's is suspending hot lunch service
- To our knowledge, there is not another turn-key school lunch provider in Richmond so we will need some time to chart the course for a new plan
- Until further notice, ALL STUDENTS will need to bring a bagged lunch, snack, and water bottle DAILY
For those families that have placed hot lunch orders:
- Lunch service, per Yay Lunch, will officially stop on Friday, November 17
- That said, Yay Lunch strongly recommends that families stop ordering ASAP
- All orders made past November 17 will be canceled and refunded
As a precaution, St. Michael's suggests that families go into their
Yay Lunch accounts and personally cancel any upcoming orders. (This will require clicking on "remove" under each daily lunch order and then hitting "checkout." You should then see that the lunch(es) have been removed and that your credit card will be billed $0.00.)
We know that hot lunch is an important and convenient option for many of our families. We are grateful for your kindness and support as we research and work on a new lunch provider plan. As mentioned, 16 RVA independent schools are affected by this very sudden closure so we will be reaching out to these schools to exchange ideas and brainstorm.
Please contact
Natasha Reed, Director of Extended Programs, with any questions.
We will be sure to keep you apprised of the next steps.
Sincerely,
Bob Gregg, Head of School
