This week's Fiercely Forward Friday: As director of Clemson University’s Early Literacy Center for South Carolina, C.C. Bates is preparing teachers to strengthen literacy instruction and expand opportunities for every child. Her research, outreach and leadership show how Clemson educators are making a difference in classrooms across our state and beyond.

- Undefeated 12-0 Clemson Volleyball opens conference play tonight against Florida State at 6 p.m. in Jervey Gym, followed by a Sunday match against Miami (Fla.) on Sunday at 1 p.m. Attendance is free.

Softball holds two scrimmages this weekend (tonight at 6 p.m. vs. Pfeiffer and Saturday at 12 p.m. vs. North Greenville). Women's lacrosse also hosts two scrimmages on Saturday (11 a.m. vs. Davidson and 3:15 p.m. vs. Kennesaw State). Keep up with the latest events in the Athletics Calendar.

- Join your colleagues and neighbors for our annual Fall In Day of Service, in partnership with Pickens County Make a Difference Day, on Saturday, October 4. Available projects include litter cleanup, Cemetery Hill beautification, building beds for area children and more.
Scroll of Honor Memorial Park will undergo repairs beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, September 29 until Friday, October 10 at 5 p.m. Three adjacent parking spaces on Williamson Road will be closed, and barricades will be in place to reroute pedestrian traffic around the area.
