The Portland-Sapporo Celebrate 62 years and for 40 years Dr. Thomson Faller has been a vital part of it. Dr. Faller is a past President of the Portland Sapporo Sister City Association and has been a member of the board of directors since 1981. He has also served as an elected official of the Portland Rose Festival Foundation since 2012, and as a member of the National Association of Foreign Student Advisors and the International House of Japan. We congratulate Dr. Faller on his decades of profound civic contributions and significant efforts to build friendship between the people of Oregon and Japan.
City of Boise/Idaho introduction event
In collaboration with the City of Boise and Boise State University, our office held a virtual event on January 26 for Japanese municipalities and university officials to learn about the appeal of Boise, Idaho. Event participants also included young students who are currently studying Japanese. We hope that this event will help lead to sustainable and strong relationships between Japan and Idaho.

Where: Portland Japanese Garden, Portland The Portland Japanese Garden showcases the netsuke collection of James R. Coonan, Denise C. Bates and Lurline C. Menzies. A netsuke is a small, carved accessory usually used in men’s kimono that was very popular in Japan at one time.
Webinar: Talking “NUNI” Visionary Japanese Textile When: March 4, 3:00-4:00pm (PT) Two speakers, Naomi Pollock, an American architect and author, and Anne Higonnet, Professor of Art History at Barnard College of Columbia University, will explore the history and future of Japanese textiles through a captivating dialogue. This webinar is hosted by Portland Japanese Garden.
