On Monday, April 17th, at approximately 4:15 a.m., the NYU Department of Campus Safety received two reports of attempted robberies that occurred between 3:45 a.m and 4:00 a.m. in Manhattan.
The first complainant, an NYU student, reported that at 3:45 a.m., while they were walking past the Grey Art Gallery, three suspects grabbed them and attempted to take their phone away. The suspects then asked the complainant to transfer them $5 via Zelle. The complainant sent them $5, got away from the suspects and ran into Weinstein Hall. The complainant was able to cancel the transaction. They reported a small cut on their hand as a result of the attempted robbery.
The second complainant, an NYU student, reported that at 4:00 a.m., while they were leaving McDonald's on Broadway, between Washington Place and Waverly Place, three suspects surrounded them and asked them for a dollar. The suspects attempted to follow and grab at the complainant, but the complainant was able to escape and run to Weinstein Hall.
Description of Suspect: Both complainants described the suspects as male-presenting. Two of the suspects had dark-complexions and one suspect had a light-complexion. No additional details are available at this time.
