Band Instructor Honored by Former Students

Honoring the memory of a high school friend became the catalyst for Jane Ellefson to look for a way to benefit the band program where they learned how to dream.  The friends participated in the band program at Eastern High School led by Charles Whorwell from 1963 to 1976.  When Jane heard that Mr. Whorwell had passed away in March, it put a sharp focus on her efforts to honor her friend, her former band instructor and support the school’s band program.

Donors Build a Better Future

Donors wanting to support local nonprofits can have their contributions doubled if they give through the Community Foundation Serving Howard, Carroll and Clinton Counties during Lilly Endowment’s Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow (GIFT) match initiative.  

Current Progress Toward Match

  • Howard County donor contributions are eligible for $720,000 of the $1 million match. 
  • Carroll County donor contributions are eligible for $309,000 of the $500,000 match.
  • Clinton County donor contributions are eligible for $110,000 of the $500,000 match.
