Today we had two lock down drills that we did not initiate. We later learned that it was due to a fault in the security system.
Our staff and students understand that they must follow the procedures and wait for the drill to be ended according to plan. The classes were in lock down for longer than usual as we investigated what caused the drill/s.
The security company will be here today to troubleshoot the issue so that this doesn’t happen again.
My first priority is the safety of the Elysian School Community – students and staff and while it was unnerving to have it happen not once but twice, everyone did the right thing. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out. Last Thursday evening the NJ DOE hosted a forum in Jersey City about the future of Charter Schools. I want to give a BIG shout out to the following parents, alum and staff for attending and representing Elysian at the meeting.
We shared ideas about what is working and what could be improved for the future of Charter Schools in NJ.
BIG THANKS TO: Parents – Julie Spears and Carolyn Buntic
Alumna- Gabby Rodriguez
Staff – Diane DeSombre, Diane Macon, Megan DeSombre, Josie Miguel, Melissa Landera, Pam Gorode, Susan Gilbertson and Susan Grierson.
There is still time to sign up for a webinar or complete the Charter School survey.
Below are some talking points to focus on:
• The value your child and family have gotten from school choice
• The value in charters having autonomy of decision-making to personalize their program and to focus time and resources on its students
• The value of small class size at Elysian
• Elysian is public charter school that receives less funding than the district schools but has additional accountability. Equal funding is only fair.
• Because of the way New Jersey’s school funding laws are set up, charter schools receive zero dollars in facilities funding from the state. Therefore, charter schools are forced to spend dollars that could be used in the classrooms on facilities.

IT'S NOT TOO LATE FOR PTSO DUES - Enjoy the Halloween Party? Did you know that your dues go toward funding the free Halloween Party, as well as the many free or low-cost events that the PTSO puts on every year? PTSO dues envelopes have been sent home, but if you did not receive one, please email elysianptso@gmail.com or send in your donation in a regular envelope, with your contact information on the outside. New Changes To Ordering Lunch!
By now, most people are familiar with our new lunch program, Red Rabbit. Starting with the December menu, it will now be posted by the month, instead of weekly. Both the full month of December and January will be posted separately at the same time. Feel free to go in and order both months at the same time, just hit "place another order", then submit on the final month.
Tuesday, (instead of Wednesday), will be the final day for submitting your order for the following week, starting with December. Orders are placed every Wednesday with Red Rabbit for the following week.
Look for the new ordering forms later this week. We will announce it in an email blast.

Donations for the Homeless Shelter Starting from Monday November 12 through Monday, November 19th, the Elysian Charter School will be collecting donations for the Hoboken Homeless Shelter. We are requesting and would be very grateful if families could donate the following items and put them in the boxes in the lobby. We will not be taking donations after the 19th as we want to get everything to the shelter before Thanksgiving. We would also love if kids could bring in a box of their favorite breakfast cereal as this would allow them to feel like they are sharing their breakfast with a neighbor who is hungry at their local shelter.
The items requested are as follows; Please no glass or perishable items.
1. Coffee
2. Sugar
3. Milk (non perishable)
4. Cereal
5. Juice (cartons or boxes only)
6. Instant Potatoes 7. Gravy and Stuffing (packaged)
Thank you for your generosity.

A Farewell Letter From Our Dear Friend, Cheryl Tricoli
To my Elysian Family,
After 17 years with Elysian I am sadden to say I won't be returning, due to health and personal reason.
It's been wonderful working with each and everyone throughout the years. From serving lunch, doing recess, afterschool, being with the children, helping parents or just helping with teachers.
I will truly miss my Elysian Family! Sincerely
Cheryl Tricoli

| A note about attendance: The New Jersey State Law is very specific about school attendance. By law, children are expected to be in school every day unless they are ill. There is no room in the law or regulations to excuse any children who have prior plans. We must mark all children absent who are not in attendance.
