Dear Silver Community,
I hope you are continuing to take good care. As you may have seen from
President Hamilton’s email yesterday morning, the 2021 NYU All-University Commencement will be held virtually. We wanted to update you on our 2021 Silver Graduation Ceremony as well.
Our Silver Graduation Ceremony is an opportunity to celebrate a key milestone in your social work journey and to welcome you into the alumni community. Even more so this year, we were excited to reunite with you ‒ and your loved ones ‒ after a long and arduous year of overcoming so many losses and challenges as a community.
However, after working with the University to explore a wide range of options for a safe in-person ceremony, including any that were possible due to our smaller graduating student cohort, it is with our deepest regret that we will not be coming together in-person for the Silver Graduation Ceremony and will instead proceed with a virtual celebration during the week of May 17, 2021.
The Graduation Planning Team is presently in the process of envisioning this celebration, and they are consulting with student, faculty, and staff leaders to create a festive, thoughtful, and meaningful way to celebrate our 2021 graduates. We want to hear from you and welcome any suggestions you may have on how we can commemorate this important milestone in a memorable and momentous way! Please share your ideas and/or interest in joining the planning group by emailing
silver.graduation@nyu.edu. Once the Graduation Planning Team has firmed up details of the virtual celebration, we will be back in touch again with details and more information.
That said, please know that our Class of 2021 will be invited to return for an in-person school ceremony when we can safely and joyously convene as a larger community of Silver students, faculty, staff, family, and friends.
Everyone at Silver and NYU is committed to and looks forward to recognizing, honoring, and celebrating your achievements; and most importantly, to supporting your health, safety, and well-being. I am grateful for your understanding, continued resilience, and commitment to our community.
