"Bridgeport’s comeback driven by jobs, development, and clean energy" -
CT Mirror

As mayor of our state’s largest city, it's my job to make sure Bridgeport becomes an even better city than it is today – a place where our kids and grandkids will choose to live, work, and raise their families, too. That's why I've been focused on boosting confidence in the Park City – so others will take note that Bridgeport is getting better every day.
This progress is already taking shape – the reopening of Pleasure Beach after years of neglect, breaking ground on Steelpointe Harbor after decades of broken promises, improving downtown, and building a second train station. These are just some of the projects bringing confidence back to the city while creating thousands of jobs.
Today, construction has finally begun at Steel Point, and Starbucks, Bass Pro, and Chipotle are all slated to open this fall. Once complete, the 52-acre peninsula will be home to high-quality housing, retail, hotels, a grocery store, and more. It will create thousands of jobs while adding tens of millions of dollars to our tax rolls.
Downtown Bridgeport is now home to hundreds of new apartments and several new businesses, as well as many companies that are moving back to the city. And, we’re making progress on the East Bridgeport Development Corridor, with the cornerstone of this revitalization project being Barnum Station. It will serve as our city's second Metro-North stop and will be a catalyst for economic development in East Bridgeport.

"Mayor Finch, Hundreds Gather to Celebrate the Opening of Black Rock School" - Connecticut Post

Mayor Bill Finch joined state and city officials, community leaders, and parents for the grand opening at Bridgeport’s Black Rock Elementary School at the newly renovated facility.
The Black Rock School renovation started in January 2014. The school has been renovated to include a dedicated bus drop-off, new pre-k and 1st grade classrooms, and administrative offices.
The renovation also includes a new multipurpose room and outdoor play area. Overall, the Black Rock School renovation is part of a more than $700 million investment in school construction launched by Mayor Bill Finch since being elected into office in 2007. During the lifetime of the school construction program, more than 3,000 jobs will be created. Over 200 jobs alone were created at Black Rock Elementary School during the construction phase.
“Whether it’s pre-k – or high school – we need to ensure Bridgeport kids are learning in the right environment. On my watch, we’ve launched the largest school construction effort in our city’s history. We’re renovating existing – and creating new – schools. Once complete, our school construction program will have created more than 3,000 jobs in Bridgeport. And, more than half of our public school kids will attend a new or newly renovated school, ensuring more and more kids are learning in the right environment,” said Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch.

"Bridgeport's Interdistrict Discovery Magnet Honored As 'Green' School" -
Bridgeport Daily Voice

The Interdistrict Discovery Magnet School, which serves kids from Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield and beyond, is being honored as the second LEED Gold certified school in Bridgeport.
“We are committed to lead by example. Discovery Magnet School is a model that provides a state-of-the-art facility in which our kids will learn and also a building and curriculum in which students interact with the environment and nature so they become environmental ambassadors for their kids and grandkids,” said Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch. “We have great teachers teaching an innovative curriculum to motivated students in a green, healthy building.”
In school terms, LEED, short for Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is like a report card for buildings, demonstrating to the community that a facility is built and operated in a way that supports the health and well-being of occupants, its neighbors and saves energy, resources and money.
