Have you ever crashed a wedding? Some of our best friends landed right in the middle of a wedding reception in another country. I was talking with Melanie and Casey about our daughter’s wedding next summer. I have lots of ideas, but it turns out I am not invited to be part of the wedding planning committee. My friend Steve says I will get to be chairman of the finance committee for the wedding. I think I know what he means.
When we invite others to a wedding, we need to know which ones will attend. So we ask them to RSVP. Jesus compared the kingdom of heaven to a king hosting a wedding banquet for his son. The invitations went out but nobody wanted to come to the feast. When they refused to attend, he sent servants to the street corners to get some guests to come. As these came in, the wedding reception was finally filled with people. But one man came in without the right attire. The king and his servants threw him out into the darkness. “Many are invited but few are chosen.”
Does this sound harsh? We are invited to come to the great wedding feast of the ages. What is our response? We could say no and miss heaven altogether, or we can choose Christ as our Savior and enter freely. But nobody will sneak in the back door of heaven, clothed in their own righteousness. If we are not clothed in the righteousness of Christ, we will be left on the outside looking in. Are you going to the wedding? Put on Christ today. You don’t want to miss it!
