Re-imagining Life...
By Ann Seacrest, RN, IBCLC, Executive Director of MilkWorks
A number of years ago I wrote an article titled A Simple Intervention for Vulnerable Babies for ARC of Lincoln/Lancaster County. I encouraged parents and care providers to not overlook the many benefits of breastfeeding a baby with special needs.
When new parents learn that their baby will have special needs, numerous emotions and thoughts run through their brains. Will my baby be okay? Who will help us? Where can we get the best care?  Parents naturally want the best support and care to enhance their child’s health and maximize their developmental abilities.
Not so long ago, breastfeeding was only an option for healthy, “easy” babies.

As of November 15th, MilkWorks is in-network with AETNA for breast pumps

BABYWEARING!
Babywearing can definitely be a lifesaver - both in those early days of your baby's life and through toddlerhood. As a busy mother of 3, babywearing allows me to keep up with my rambunctious bigger kiddos while still meeting the emotional & nutritional needs of my youngest. Learning how to breastfeed in a carreir hands free is a game changer!  - Angie, Breastfeeding Educator

Down Syndrome + Breastfeeding
The physical act of breastfeeding your baby with Downs Syndrome serves a type of speech therapy, shaping the upper palate, and laying the groundwork for future speech. This is just one of the many benefits. Read more here under the Basics of Breastfeeding.

Prematurity Awareness
In the U.S., 1 in 10 babies are born prematurely (prior to 37 weeks gestation). Prematurity Awareness Month is a campaign designed to raise awareness and reduce premanture births; to honor Prematurity Awareness Day, there are events in communities worldwide.
Our Preemie/NICU Mom Talk is designed for mothers of babies who are premature, are currently in the NICU, or a NICU graduate. Led by an RN IBCLC with NICU experience, you will find support for all of the unique experiences mothers face when breastfeeding and/or pumping for an early, ill, or baby with special needs. You are welcome to attend with, or without, your baby.
We have special holiday hours so that staff can spend more time with their family, friends & loved ones...
  • Early close at 2pm Wednesday, 11/22
  • CLOSED Thanksgiving Day, 11/23
  • CLOSED Christmas Day, 12/25
