Hebrews 8:10-12
10 This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel
after that time, declares the Lord.
I will put my laws in their minds
and write them on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
11 No longer will they teach their neighbor,
or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
12 For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more.”

New International Version (NIV)
I have never counted the Bibles on the shelf in my library.  They are many and varied.  Some are written in other languages.  I can read some of those languages, but not all.  The Bible has always been for me a meeting place with God.  We meet a lot.
Today I signed Bibles for our graduating Seniors.  This is a remarkable group.  I have known many of them for their whole lives.  Some of them I held at family dedication.  We gave them a Bible that day, too.  Then, when they were in the first grade, we gave them, you guessed it, Bibles.  To the casual observer, this must surely seem like a lot of Bible-sharing.  What exactly is the point?
The writer of Hebrews tells us that God is not so much trying to fill our shelves as our hearts with his word.  Ideally, we will read it so much that it takes hold in our hearts and minds.  The goal, if I may say, is not just to know the Bible, but to know its Author.  We pray that God will write his word on our hearts today in a language that we and our neighbors understand.  Open your heart to the scripture.  God will meet you there!
Pray with me:
Father, we thank you for speaking to us in your word.  We have so much access to your word in book and electronic form.  Please imprint it on the vellum of our hearts.  Help us to come to know you so that we may help others come to know you.  We ask it in the name of Jesus Christ, the living Word.  Amen.
Our 2023 Every Day with Jesus readings are taken from Robert Murray M'Cheyne's Bible Reading Calendar. Copies of the reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download your copy here:
Please join us in reading through the scriptures again this year.  We will read the New Testament twice and the Old Testament once this year. M'Cheyne once said, “A man is who he is on his knees, and nothing more.”  Would you pray with me that God will make his word live to us this year?  Let’s not just get through the Bible.  Let it get through to us!

Joyfully,
Duane
