Tech Tip of the Week

From Jen O'Brien
TIP: Use the "Heading" tool - in descending order (starting with Heading 1 (H1) and moving down to Heading 2, Heading 3, etc.) - for your electronic documents and webpages, instead of stylizing the text size and boldness or just picking the heading that looks the best.
WHY: One word: accessibility. Users who navigate your page or electronic document with a screen reader are able to scan headings to jump to the section of the document that they are looking for, instead of having to listen to the whole document. Use of headings indicates how the document or page is organized.
Note: H1 should only be used for the TITLE of the page or document - so you will never use H1 in the CMS, since the title of the page was established when the page was created.
HOW: The Heading tool is in typically available in the editing toolbar. Structure the page or document like you would an outline. In this example from the CMS, the first Heading 2 (or "H2") stands alone as its own section, while the second H2 contains additional headings within (H3).
