New mural artists announced | |
The rendering above offers a first look at Katy Casper’s “Fell Asleep Beneath the Flowers,” one of four new murals coming to Arvada this fall. Casper, Wey Mnky and Thomas “Detour” Evans will create street murals at three locations in Olde Town, while Adden Joule will transform the 66th Avenue underpass along the Ralston Creek Trail near Long Lake Regional Park.
The four colorful designs feature native flowers and pollinators, insects, flowing koi, and prairie and foothills landscapes accented with gold. The Arvada Arts and Culture Commission selected all four artists and is partnering with the Olde Town Business Improvement District on the three Olde Town installations.
Meet the artists and view their designs on the City’s webpages for the Olde Town murals and Long Lake/Ralston Creek Trail Underpass mural. All four murals are expected to be completed by the end of October.

A summer of water conservation: How did we do? |
As a response to Stage 1 drought conditions, mandatory watering restrictions took effect in Arvada on April 15. Since then, Arvadans have been working hard to meet our goal to reduce water use by 20%. In August, we saved 17% compared to our 5-year average!
Check our progress by visiting the Water Use and Supply Updates webpage to find monthly snapshots of our water use over time. Compare actual water used to the 5-year average and 20% reduction target.

Access the Water Restrictions webpage for a full breakdown of current regulations. As a reminder, lawn watering ends Oct. 1. Thanks for doing your part to make every drop count, Arvada!

Saving gas, one traffic signal at a time |
On the latest episode of the Inside Arvada podcast, Traffic Engineer Elijah Vignet-Kotze visits to talk about how signal timing works.
Arvada manages about 120 traffic signals (CDOT handles the state highways through town). Updates on recent retiming work on 64th Ave. and 80th Ave. have resulted in fewer stops, faster travel times, and lower greenhouse gas emissions. He also covers questions on flashing signals and roundabouts, plus installation of new signals at 64th & Easley and 63rd & McIntyre.
Listen on Apple, Spotify, or the Inside Arvada webpage.

300+ ways Arvada is helping first responders |
Recently, the City of Arvada was divided into more than 300 smaller areas called polygons, geographic areas defined by emergency responders to warn and evacuate residents of imminent threats like wildfires or floods.
Polygons help direct responders to specific areas and help narrow alerts to relevant neighborhoods.
Watch a short video explaining how the polygons are used and visit the Evacuation Polygons webpage to find your polygon.
