On Saturday, January 11, 2025, the Department of Campus Safety received a report of a robbery that took place at approximately 2:30 p.m. near Raising Cane's, located at 20 Astor Place, in Manhattan.
The victim, an NYU student, was approached by two unknown individuals who asked the victim for money. When the student declined, the individuals stated, "We can do this the easy way or the hard way," prompting the victim to hand over $20. The individuals then coerced the student to the McDonald's at 724 Broadway, where the student withdrew money from an ATM and handed the money over to the individuals.
Subsequently, the individuals coerced the student to visit Citibank at 749 Broadway and Bank of America at 742 Broadway. Although the student attempted to withdraw more funds at these locations, the attempts were unsuccessful. At this point, the individuals coerced the student into using Apple Pay to transfer money electronically to their phones. The individuals then fled the scene.
The student reported no physical injuries and was offered supportive resources. A report has been filed with the NYPD.
Description of Suspects: The student reports the suspects are male-presenting with dark complexions, approximately 5'6" to 5'8" tall, with slim builds. The individuals were wearing all black clothing.
